Held with Samaria Church Pike County, Ransom Kentucky
One Hundred Sixteenth Annual Session
EXPRESSION OF THANKS: We wish to thank all the members and friends of the Association for their kindness shown, and taking care of the people. I feel the Lord has blessed them and gave them a mind to work and oaks ready for the caring for His people, or they could Rut have done it.
Dear Brethren and Sisters and friends, — In keeping this appointment of the association last year, I was appointed to prepare the Circular Letter for this session. This appointment has caused much fear with me for I know that if I prepare a letter that would be acceptable with my dear brethren and sisters, I will have to be blessed with that Spirit from the Almighty God. For we find Jesus saying, “without Me You can do nothing.” Brethren, the scripture that is on my mind is found in St. John 6:37, 38, and 39. Brethren, this is the language of the Savior. “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” Brethren, I believe Jesus in the 39th verse told what His Father's will was, “And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.”
Brethren, we find in St. Matthew 11:27 where Jesus said, “All things are delivered unto Me of My Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him.”
Brethren, to me that is the only way we believe in the love and mercy of the Lord is through and by His darling Son, for Jesus is the Mediator between God and man.
We find in St. John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:1, “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.” But Jesus who was born of the Virgin Mary whom I put my trust in came and set up a new and living way. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:16 - “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their mind will I write them, and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
Brethren, to me I believe the ones the Lord had under consideration were the ones that the Father gave the Son back in the covenant of grace, the ones He said He loved with an everlasting love. Brethren, I hope to believe in a God that is all wise, the one that declared the end from the beginning and the ancient things not yet done, saying, my counsel shall stand and I will do all my pleasure.
Brethren, I believe every child of God was just as present with Him back in the morning of time as they are now or ever will be for we find in Psalms of David in 139:15-16, “My substance was not hidden from Thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” These people have I formed for self and they shall show forth My praise.
Brethren, I don't believe there is anything that could hinder one of the children of God from praising His high and lofty name when God visits one of His children. By His Holy Spirit for that is the only way God can be worshipped is in spirit and truth for the. carnal mind is not subject to the laws of God neither indeed can be. As it was with the apostle Paul, PauI says, “I am a man which am a Jew and taught after the. manners of the Law.” Brethren I believe Paul was preaching the works of the law, but when that light from Heaven shined around him, he was made to say, Who art Thou, Lord. Paul said What shall I do, Lord? The Lord told him to arise and go to Damascus, and there it shall be told all things which are appointed for thee to do. Brethren, you can see that it wasn't nothing good that Paul did that caused that light to shine around him and made Paul to say, “By the grace of God, I am what I am.”
My dear brethren, I believe it was the same God that visited Paul, visited His children all down through time and will as long as time lasts, and takes away that hard and stony heart and gives them a heart of love, and causes them to love one another and makes them to love the things they once hated and hate the things they once loved. Brethren, I believe in the doctrine of salvation by grace and grace alone. This grace is something poor mortal men and women can't work out for it is a free gift that God gives them that love Him, not to them that will love Him. Brethren, to me there is a difference between love Him and them that will love. We find the Scriptures saying there was a people confessed with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Brethren, if so be that I know anything about the love of God, it is something God puts in the hearts of His children that makes them love Him, and He leads them in a way they knew not and paths they never trod before. Brethren, referring back to the text where Jesus said He came down from Heaven not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me. John. 4:34, Jesus said, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.”
Brethren, I believe all that Jesus did was according to the will of God and the predestination of God which means the same to me. I believe when Jesus died on the cross that He saved all the Father gave Him without the loss of one. Brethren, I believe when Jesus said, “Father, I have finished the work Thou gavest Me to do,” I believe Jesus did a work for His people that they couldn't do for themselves. No wonder Jesus said He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. Paul said in Eph. 2:8, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Brethren, I believe when Jesus finished the work the Father gave Him to do He went back to His Father and is now seated at the right hand of God, making intercessions for the saints according to the will of God.
Brethren, I believe Jesus is coming back again to collect His children home, the ones He gave His precious blood for. I believe in a resurrection of the just and the unjust, Brethren, I believe the righteous will come forth a spiritual body, taken home to Heaven and immortal glory. The wicked will be cast into that lake of fire that will burn forever and ever. Paul said, “If in this life only we have hope, we are of all men most miserable.”
Brethren, I believe all the saints of God live in hope of the resurrection of these bodies from the grave. I believe they go down a natural body and raised a spiritual body, it is sown in corruption and is raised in incorruption. It is sown in weakness and raised in power, Brethren, I believe it will be the same body that goes down in the grave that comes forth, but it will be raised a spiritual body. Just like our dear Savior. Paul said, “it doth not yet appear what we shall be, But that when He appeareth we shall be like Him and to be like Christ will be good enough for any poor child of God that has suffered for Christ's sake.” This is something they could not be delivered from other than by the grace of God.
So my dear brethren, I will close by saying if saved, saved by the grace of God. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
So brethren, God bless you all.
