Categories and descriptions
[edit]Please slow down with your uploads and take more time to curate the files. Files need useful descriptions - the descriptions from Flickr are often not sufficient. Personal commentary and links to the photographer's website are not appropriate to have in the descriptions. Additionally, you need to add the most specific categories available. Broad categories like country names are not useful. Thank you, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:42, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- I will! Thank you Domzalee (talk) 19:47, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- You seem to still be uploading files like File:Snowy Train (3087455585).jpg with poor filenames, descriptions, and categories. That is not acceptable, especially at the high volume you are uploading files. If you continue to do so, you will lose access to uploading files. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:05, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- I renamed to File:Chicago Transit Authority L Train in Snow on 06 December 2008 (3087455585).jpg. I changed the description from "Chicago el train" to "A Chicago Transit Authority train in Chicago, Illinois on 6 December 2008." I changed the category from "Chicago Transit Authority" to "Chicago L" and "December 2008 in Chicago." Domzalee (talk) 16:35, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- "Chicago L" is still too broad of a category. You need to always use the most specific available categories, which I have added on that file, and you need to do so for every single file you upload. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:32, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Jiffy Mix Plant - Chelsea - Michigan (52881290067).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
